I have a Sport License, do I need to have an AEF membership as well?
Since the provinces and Equine Canada have resolved their recent differences, once again Provincial Federation membership (in Alberta-AEF) must be purchased by every AB-resident EC sport license holder. The provincial membership will provide the insurance liability coverage that is needed to accompany a sport license. Equine Canada will no longer be providing liability insurance with sport licenses, as they did for 2011.
As an AEF member, do I need to purchase a Sport License as well?
AEF members are not obligated to purchase a sport license simply because they are an AEF member, however if you intend to compete at any EC-sanctioned (Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum level) show then purchasing a sport license becomes a requirement. Additionally, Coaches, Instructors and National EC-carded officials are all required to have a current Sport License.
By joining the AEF, you will automatically become a member of Equine Canada, which allows access to the EC Members First discount program, and the ability to vote in any EC general elections, however, please note this automatic membership does not replace a sport license, which must still be purchased from EC directly.
How do I purchase a Sport License or Passport?
Sport Licenses and Equine Passports must be purchased through Equine Canada directly. Please visit their website to purchase these items or to get more information.
How do I purchase Discipline memberships?
Eventing Canada, Dressage Canada, Drive Canada, Jump Canada are all sub committees of Equine Canada and offer their own memberships. Depending on the level of show, competitors may be required to hold these memberships in addition to a Sport License and AEF membership. Discipline memberships are all purchased through Equine Canada and can be done at the same time as purchasing a Sport License. Further information on the discipline committees of Equine Canada can be located on the EC website.
